Meetings
NWG has its Committee meetings usually bi-monthly. At our AGM the Annual Report and the Accounts are presented and there is an election of its Officers. Details – Time date and venue are given on Wild Norley and Norley village Facebook pages, and for the AGM, on the village’s three Notice Boards. If people wish to attend and find out more about our activities they are very welcome.
Work “Days”
Although bank holidays do not always allow it these are usually the last Sunday of the month. They start at 10 am and finish around lunch time. Work is relatively light, conservation “gardening” viz clearing paths. removing bracken, brambles, invasive plants e.g. Himalayan balsam/ Birch / Willow saplings, planting bulbs / plug plants, sowing seeds, raking up leaves/mown grass.
Work is at one of the Commons such as Wickentree, Flaxmere Moss or the Memorial garden and in the Wildwood next to St John’s.
There are likely to be some Toad Patrols, in late February, early March around late afternoon/early evening, in the lanes surrounding Norley Bank Farm. This will involve moving toads, frogs etc so they can travel in safety to ponds in order to breed.
Everyone is welcome to come and help and details will be posted on Wild Norley and Norley village Facebook pages.
Walks
Beating the Bounds – Norley Commons Health Assessment – this starts at the Village hall and lasts about two hours. As last year it is now being combined with the international City Nature Challenge see How to help and Useful contacts for more information.
Poppy Crosses walk – This follows after the wreath laying Ceremony on Remembrance Sunday at the Tommy at St Johns the Evangelist. Poppy crosses joining the WI’s knitted poppies are placed at the three Commonwealth War Graves and the 11 plaques on the Wildflower Memorial (WM)Walk.
DIY Christmas Wreaths walk – Every year the family of the Late Rob Appleton, who contributed so much to the WM walk put lovely Xmas wreaths on all the war Graves and Plaques. The walk is one way to try and burn off excess calories but only about two mince pies worth!
Talks
NWG is happy to come and talk to organisations, schools etc on topics relating to wildlife. After the Covid inter-regnum the talk on Honey, Solitary and Bumble bees has been resumed at Norley CE Primary School.
